Determining the age of a Sombrero?

Yahoody - thank you for the replies. I need to find some sombrero reference material and educate myself.. Sugar loaf sombrero? i wasn’t aware of such a style. And yes thanks to your input I realize my sombrero is a lot more recent than the Revolution. Finding one from that time period would...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Admittedly, I did not wear this one out and about but I did wear it while I worked on some stuff in my office. Needs to be refurbished by a good hat shop but I like the look of it. Thank goodness no one was home so there were no eye rolls coming from my beloved.

Determining the age of a Sombrero?

    t. jones - I appreciate the reply. I’ve been in conversation with Yahoody. He thinks my hat is a charro styleFrom the 1960s made from beaver felt. He thought it looked well made and the felt was of good quality. Of course, he admitted these were guesses and it would be better if he could see...

Determining the age of a Sombrero?

I've been looking for a vintage sombrero for my collection as I’ve been reading about the Mexican Revolution and studying various photos from between 1910-1920. I did a search for this topic and came up with bupkis . I did see a great discussion here from 2022 about sombreros being worn by...

From 1901 Montgomery Wards catalogue - looks very similar to the lower meerschaum in above post Eagle claw meerschaum like mine above from 1911 Sears catalog no. 122

Two very old Meerschaums. The case for the lower one has 1876 scribbled on - always suspect of that sort of thing but it is a three star. the eagle claw case has no markings inside. The tin has an 1897 award noted on it So obviously post that date.

    Show us your Guns!

I don’t know how many of you have seen the 2015 movie starring Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Mathew Fox and Richard Jenkins (among others) but it surprised me in a good way being part classic western and part brutal horror. Some didn’t like it because of the horror aspect so beware if you...

Beautiful engraved guns and bladed weapons! Fooling around in the office again when I am supposed to be cleaning and consolidating. WWI (more or less) with Webley 1909 auto and various accoutrements.

Dang, I hope it doesn't take that long! I just keyed in on your signature - I was loaned out by my company to the Arizona Dept of Transportation for 2 years as an senior archaeologist reviewing project reports. Doing mainly Historical Archaeology now as an an on-call PI. I see the N. Greene...
