It's a strange business decision for DHL to completely cut off a whole segment of their market.

yes, I would say the fit is just right! That sheen is pretty typical of leather from that era. I think if you wore it in the rain a few times it would knock that sheen down. BTW, if you're ever interested in selling it, let me know!
