I agree about the Elosegui… my 1858 has a unique hand even after many years. It needed quite some abuse before it softened to my liking though.
One negative: they shrink after getting very wet - a hat stretcher is a necessity. This is where the Auloranesa shines: no shrinkage!
Ooooh, that beret hanger… I will have to build something like that for myself. Four or five levels, one above the other, so that the total hanging height is like a coat. Top edge of the arc padded to keep the beret edge full.
Fedster:
in my experience the manufactur berets shrink so little that I disregard that factor in ordering a size. The Eloseguis that I have shrink something like a 28 cm becoming a 27cm - but then I walk daily in rain, sleet, hail and snow. I do dry them gently, with rolled towels inside the...

I realize these merinos by le Beret Français are new on the market… I will still ask if you think the brown version will shrink like an Elosegui or hardly at all like a Manefactur de Beret.
Alan…
kudos to whoever your photographer is. In fact, I’d be interested to know what lens was used.
More to the point - I got my Merino d’Arles today! Oh my oh my. This is a very different beret indeed. It may well become my daily wear, replacing the mix of Auloronesa and Elosequi that Are my...
Oh dear oh dear...
I discover that my location name has odious associations!
Shall I make it "pen-Arrokoth"? (Tongue-in-cheek for those in the know...)
I have also found that my berets shrink. Now I walk to and from work, about two kilometers each way. When there is rain, my berets get wet. Really wet. So, they shrink. I have a general notion that my 1858 has shrunk more than my Auloronesas, though if there is a difference it’s not much.

Got the Chasseur Alpin today! It’s like the pro version of all berets... thick, heavy and dense.
Sadly, the size 57 is a bit loose on my 56.5mm head. I would suggest anyone in the market for one of these to consider buying a size down. The weight and dimensions of this weather-defying equipage...
Thanks for your replies Tchoupi and Bouwerji_jongen! I have ordered the Roma and an Alpin size 57. The thing about Daan is that in addition to his having an unequaled selection and knowledge, he is also a paragon of patience.
Now I wait for the parcel, and hope for truly awful weather this...
Help with Laulhere Chasseur Alpin size!
I have been driving myself nuts over what size of the Laulhere Alpin Chasseur to order from Daan.
My head measures 56.5 - 57cm.
A lady on the phone at the Paris shop listed on the Laulhere website said that due to the large size of the Alpin I should...
Hi all, it’s ages since I’ve posted, though I’ve been lurking a lot.
I hope to get some constructive input on berets for warm weather. I can’t make cotton Berets work for me. I have a 31mm Tolosa Tupida and I like the the dark blue color, the tight knit and the feel of the material, but it’s...
I have been seeing more and more ordinary people (i.e. persons not on this forum) shamelessly wearing berets in public.
Hrmmph. My status as A Strange Fellow is threatened.
Daan, I will shortly be ordering a fox and a mammoth from you.
Let’s see the hoi polloi match that!
