Thank you, Andy. That was very informative, and well written. Stormpaw

    Veg v. Chrome Tanning

If I remember correctly chrome tanned leather is quick and easy to produce (better for mass production) and more resistant to water. However, the chemical process is more damaging to the hide, and the leather won't age as well or last as long. Vegetable tanned leather takes much longer and...

    Woolrich blends, fabrics, and dating

I believe the nylon is supposed to add a bit of strength and durability to the fabric. It is a very strong material. Nylon also helps the wool hold its shape when wet. Wool tends to become more flexible when damp. Stormpaw

Gibson Barnes Mark 31 size 42

I just realized I didn't have fifteen posts. I'm not sure I could send private messages. This should be my fifteenth so I will send the message again. Stormpaw

    ANJ-4 jackets

Bunyip, I think ANJ-4 jackets just aren't as well known. The A-2, B-3 and Irvin jackets are very iconic, but I don't see many pictures from WW2 with ANJ-4 jackets. Stormpaw

    Lost Worlds

I recently purchased an ANJ-4 jacket from Lost Worlds. I have absolutely no complaints. The jacket is excellent and actually arrived sooner than expected. Communication was quick and straightforward. I hope that helps. Stormpaw

    Gibson & barnes Historic A-2

Oh well, I would never have guessed that. I'm not to good with navy planes. That is a great story. I spent a little time at Pensacola NAS myself (while in the USAF), but nothing nearly so interesting. Stormpaw

    Gibson & barnes Historic A-2

Thank you. I think you are right. On a side note, what aircraft is that on your avatar? At first I thought it was a T-6, then I started thinking it looked more like a PT-26, but that doesn't seem quite right either. I obviously need more practice. Stormpaw

Gibson Barnes Mark 31 size 42

It looks like I am too late, but I thought I would ask anyway. Do you still have the G&B Mark 31 A-2 jacket? Thanks for your time. Stormpaw

    Gibson & barnes Historic A-2

Fanch, that is a fine looking jacket. It fits you very nicely, as well. I have be considering one of Gibson and Barnes' Mark 31 A-2 jackets for a while. After seeing your photographs I think I am going to have to get one. Of course, now I am a bit worried about the sizing (I don't own an A-2...

    ANJ-4 jackets

Those are some more fine looking ANJ-4 jackets. I have always liked the M445 as well. The LW jacket has Goatskin reinforcements instead of horsehide (I would guess some of the originals did too). That aside, Plumbline, I notice you kept the one without buttons. I would imagine they would be...

    ANJ-4 jackets

Oh, that is interesting. I couldn't remember where I saw those pictures. The LW jackets (and the Eastman jackets) are definitely modeled after the second version. The Aero jackets seem to be modeled after the third. Also, thank you. Those boot have a lot of miles on them, and I plan to put...

    A2, G1 terminology?

From what you said, I would check out Gibson and Barnes "Civil G-1". I have heard many good things about G&B (not so much for US wings). The civil and modern military versions are not as slim fitting as the historical WW2 reproductions, and the civil models add hand warmer pockets and some...

    ANJ-4 jackets

Also, thank you gentlemen. The jacket hasn't even started to break in yet, but it already fits and feels great. I have put a lot of work into that Sportster. We are partners. I try to keep it running, and it tries to get me where I need to go. Sometimes we both fail. It will be getting...
