Thanks Vic . Wow so many choices where to start.
Miller Latonia and Miller Fort Worth look grand.
The San Fran is always a nice hat too.
Boy to have all the choices is crown heights. Now days its the same crown and two creases stamped into a hat.
An they wonder why hats don't sell well.:)

I have some Royal Deluxe hats that are really fine fur felt also, but I think the catch is that we have not seen a single advertisement from those times (or very few, if any) that touted any beaver content below the Sovereign level in the fedoras and 3X Beaver level in westerns (and these crossed over sometimes, I have a 3X beaver fedora and had a Sovereign western).

Carouselvic stated that the oil silk sweat barriers were opaque but not yellow - is there a clear break in time for when the oil silk was yellow vs not yellow? I have examples of both, and am not sure if one preceded the other or if the experimentation with different formulas went back and forth at the time because maybe the yellowing didn't show up until later?

Here is a NRA labeled(1933-1936) Panama with a sweat resistor.(see post #49 for what I said)

This was a particularly good set of posts, carouselvic - the chart at the bottom of catalog pg 22 in post#62 above gives such a clear description of the various quality available at that time, in that box titled 'Deluxe Stetsons' - 2 grades of nutria and 3 of beaver, with 5X as the max. I wonder if Stetson's No.1 Quality designation was later sub-divided into Royal and Royal Deluxe. In that catalog we only see No.1 Quality and then the box of 'Deluxe Stetsons' - I didn't see anything in-between.

edited to say - oops, now I do see a separate 'Standard Quality' and an 'Extra Quality' - just old blindness, 'scuse me.

Ditto! thanks Vic. Very informative. I do not see any silver belly color mentioned, instead we see creamy white, silver, pearl grey, and belgian beaver (light sand) seems to be the most popular color. Transition into using 'Silver Belly' must have come after this time.

Doesn't the model for the Empire (No. 8574, in the last image posted) look a LOT like William Shatner did in 1971?

And a hat with a 7" crown, or one with a 5" brim --???

But I'd love to get my hands on their Panamas, like the Dobbs/West Open Trail (8762), or the Resistol Western Dress Panama (8766).
