Did you loose a lot of the actual hair/felt? That looks amazing!
I did loose some, just keep moving counter clockwise until I got it feathered in. Actually the hat was in worse shape than in the photo. I didn't photo it until I was almost done. In addition to glue from a hat band, glue had been spilled on the brim.

DD- you did a fantastic job.

I'm concerned about losing too much beaver/felt, but I'll check with Stetson too. I suppose I could even use a black marker, to cover some of the glue- at least the part that extends above the original felt band. But we'll see. I don't want to ruin the hat.

I wouldn't want to ruin it either. The hat I did this to was a $5 garage sale hat. I do think a wide ribbon may look really good! Just my opinion, but never take advice from anyone at bootbarn.

I trust the woman (first mistake? :) ) who suggested the steam remedy, and to be fair, I probably just used too much glue. But I've given some thought to the wide ribbon solution, a course of action I may indeed take...

Where would I pick up a wide black ribbon for this?

I have bought it from vendors on etsy, but there are other vendors. Check out the Conversion Corral thread, some of those guys can help. Just get a cotton/rayon blend if possible, it responds best to steam. There are instructions on making a ribbon on this forum. I just don't remember where at the moment.

Not I, obviously, just a really cool photo I found digging around on the internet. Lots of cool westerns.

Been trying to find a decent configuration for this neat Arnold hatters hat, but although I can get it looking pretty ok in the abstract, I just can’t settle on anything that wears decent on my head. Maybe it’s a color thing or I just don’t have the right clothes for it, I don’t know.

Try a Montana Peak or Mountie.

I like third from last the best, the crease looks good with the flatter brim.

Jeff, I agree with DD, pic#4 looks best.

Just my opinions/suggestions to follow: The hat has a very wide ribbon so keep the crown as tall as you can or change the ribbon. Stay away from sunken telescope creases.

I like a straight block with a center crease & no pinches or dents. Keep the brim flat with a kettle curl around the edge (my preference with a wide ribbon).

I also like a deep, narrow, tight center crease & no pinches or dents. I like the brim flat with just a gentle swoop.

If you want rolled fenders then keep the low & to the sides. To keep some crown height it would look best with a Tom Mix crease.
