Vintage neon signs

That sucks so much Harv. Springfield (MO) loves a chain restaurant as well. I remember the excitement when Chili's came to town. That love meant that long-time icons like Hamby's Steak House eventually went out (and is now a parking lot). This place had the best blue plate specials and pies. And the rolls ... oh, the rolls. We're starting to see a move towards more local independent restaurants, but it is sad to think of what we lost due to the standardization of America.

I would eat at that steak house any day of the week Bob! Gentrification of the restaurant scene is sad. Places like Chili's, Ruby Tuesdays, Fridays, Applebys, you name the abomination. They all serve high calories food without flavor. I know we have discussed Truck Stop Restaurants in the past. I remember when that was the best place on the highway you could eat a meal. Sad to see that all disappear for food that is the same price, but a way lower grade. Dammit. [emoji35]

And speaking of which....

Not vintage, but 80s for sure.

As a teenager / young adult growing up in NJ, going to Atlantic City - when it was the only casino alternative to Vegas - was something you did. You headed north to NYC, east to the shore or south AC. In AC, you had the casinos, the honky tonk boardwalk, the racetrack (thoroughbreds) and concerts.

Coming back, about an hour outside of AC and with two more hours to go, this was the place to stop as AC (at least back then) didn't have great food places, so by the time you got here, you were starving. It's a classic NJ diner (with great breakfast foods, wonderful steak fries, huge and rich sticky buns [took some extra for the ride and next day] and massive pies, if memory serves).

If AC wasn't such an armpit today, I'd love to get down there with super girlfriend (she's never been to AC) in part to show her this diner, but that is a heck of a long trip for not much more than seedy AC and a diner.

Good point. Looks and sounds like a great place. Im with you, AC is no destination. For anyone. Ever.

Well, not for anyone I know anyway.

While I applaud the effort - a big giant shirt on a dry cleaner's sign - somehow the execution doesn't really work IMHO.

While not the best execution by any means, it beats the tar out of a crappy faded plastic sign board stuck on the front of the building with some half working fluorescent tubes behind it. And like Mach1, I dig the green bowtie.
