This is a hat I made in my early years and a good customer of mine recently sent it to me to restore since it was a very well worn hat with significant patina(dirt, stains, fading) . Friend that sent it lives in Texas so I understand the fading. Surprised to see this hat of mine it was kind of a neat experience as I wasn’t told that it was my hat coming back to be restored. I only made a handful of custom made a few years ago before realizing the work involved didn’t match my temperament. Anyway here are before and after restoration of hat for anyone interested . I have it a new crown ribbon w a matching windcord and new leather vented sweatband with a two tone silk liner.

Greetings Bond et al:
Must feel good seeing an old friend come back around. Kinda like your kids coming home after a long away, all grown up and doing well. Home for some love.
Beautiful hat to start with. Great hat with character. Lovely hat to send off.
Good go.
Be well. Bowen

It's great that the hat came back to you, Scott. Especially if you didn't know beforehand where it ended up or was.

I bought a new Simco saddle once that came with a free engraved horn cap of my design. The saddle never quite fit right so after about a yr I sold it. I couldn't get the horn cap off & the sheepskin was stained purple from a blanket. About 12 yrs later & 180 miles away from home I saw that saddle in a shop. I thought it was meant to be so I made a deal to buy it back. Still have it.

Thanks for the comments all. Yeah believe me I had the thought of maybe offering to buy it back but then let go of that idea. I have restored many different brands of hats over the years so for that reason alone it was unusual to restore this hat because it felt so different from vintage quality felts of 60+ years ago. I honestly wasn’t looking forward to tearing it down and rebuilding it but once I got into it I was able to coax some life back into it . It has a nice feel to it now and I left a small amount of staining smudges on binding to lend it an air of being headed towards a life of new vintage..

Sold a Lionel Reed cutting saddle during a money crunch some years ago. Still looking for it. It may be in MO.
