I like that Cavanaugh. It’s not actually a 7 1/2 and I doubt it would fit me. Eventually I’d like to get a really nice vintage one, a really nice custom one from a smaller custom hatter and one from Lock. I’d like to look at them side by side. We shall see how it goes. :)

Nice job. I have a Campdraft Deluxe I bought about fifteen years ago - steamed the brim down at the front on mine, gave it a fedora-style bash. Yours looks great. I like them as a sort of 'town cowboy' hat, a subtle Western style that I find a lot more wearable than an overt cowboy hat. I do...

...this is a Japan made open crown stratoliner. It seems to have a wider brim and a wind chord, so is probably more like a more expensive Campdraft. I think unless I can track down a premier I may well think about a regular stratoliner later in the year instead. I don’t need quite that much brim.

    Akubra Overload

Bluegrass Green is the best hat color ever, in my opinion. I’m glad I have a few. It’s a shame to see them go.

    Akubra Campdraft

...noticeably in the first week or so, but a wetting and drying helps shrink a little and allows the hat to conform better to my head. The Campdraft seems to be a little in the large side so I made sure to let it get a moderate wetting this afternoon, but the effect on the sand coloured felt...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Well I managed to thoroughly soak the Campdraft and a levis jacket leaving the coffee shop. Swapped out for an old Resistol for another run out and it got a bit of a rinse too.. Oh well... they needed cleaning and my head stayed dry.... Think Im going to plant myself inside on the recliner and...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Looks like weve got a few days of decent rain here in East texas. Time to go back under one of the Akubras. Today its a Cedar Brown Campdraft Deluxe

    The Open Road Guild

That was the angle I was approaching it from. I’ve found my Akubra really don’t mind the rain at all, they hold their shape, and if you size up rather than down and wear them a lot they pretty soon conform nicely to my head size and shape. On the other hand, if I had money to burn I’d...

For a "Rain Hat" I would hands down go with a Campdraft (Akubra) and have them shape it for you if you feel uncomfortable doing so yourself (though in my mind that is half the fun/accomplishment). THAT is what I do with my Akubra's as they strand the weather well, very well indeed. What Jared...

...the sweatband, I really do not like Akubra sweats). But the price point difference between them isn't nothing. In Akubra's defense, the Campdraft was originally produced under license as an Open Road. The license expired and they changed the name. They're also hats made for the outback and...

...the cost of a high end Stetson scares me off. On the other hand, if you want a pretty much bombproof OR style hat I’d recommend an Akubra Campdraft, which is basically an OR with (from what I can tell) very slightly taller crown and wider brim that modern OR’s. Dense rabbit felt, a fraction...

The Squatter is a thicker felt. But honestly not much of a difference.

...busy hats and cowboy hats seem much too wide to me but undoubtedly have better sun protection, which is actually one of the reasons I went for the campdraft, as a sort of compromise. Wearing the CD for a few days now, it’s funny how quickly our perspective can change as we get used to a new...

Depending on your style & body type, a concentric cut brim @ 3” can be ideal. I often like 3.125” in a vintage BE brim.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Oddly enough I decided to shave this morning for the first time this year, my annual ‘spring shearing’ you might say. That’s one hell of a brim though, would be ideal once the sun really starts to beat down in a month or so. But I think the campdraft will do the job just as well.

...Plateau (a well kept secret that feels a lot like being back in the uplands of Mid Wales) with the family. Ideal spring weather to give the Campdraft its first outing. The brim is starting to soften up and take a better shape, I can see this hat being really easy to wear despite its size...

    Post New Hats Here!

...similar with my FedIV and it definitely gave it a more Aussie vibe. Looks good and doesn’t seem particularly tall. Creased now, my campdraft is about 12cm front and 11 at the back, about half a cm taller than my creased FedIV and the Stylemaster which is about the same. The real difference...
