I have a couple of original A-2s, a pre-war Roughwear and wartime Star Sportswear and always wear the collars unsnapped. Certainly with the RW, being collarstand, if snapped the collar does stand very high. Ultmately its entirely a personal choice of what you prefer but seemingly from pictures...
I'm afraid what you have there is most definately a repro as all original WW2 B-3s were US made, although they never actually state that on the label. What they always do state, if an official B-3, in these precise words is "PROPERTY AIR FORCE US ARMY"
Many thanks for the info, Major Nick. I've passed this onto the artist. He did a test yesterday using acetone on the back of a pocket flap and said that it seems promising, drying out the surface of the leather and giving it a matte appearance. He's going to have a go at the back panel itself...
