Ask a question, get an answer

RJR...you really can't see the crease in the brim unless the light hits it just right. It's when I pick the hat up by the brim that the crease shows up. It feels the same as a piece of stiff cardboard that has a weak spot left by a crease.

    Tell Me This Isn't Normal

Ok...so I received my replacement Chatham and everything looks great. The ribbon is on perfectly and there aren't any #8 monofilament ends poking through. However... (there's always something) I did notice a small crease/dent in the middle of the brim on the side of the hat. It's not visibly...

Ask a question, get an answer

I have a quick question. I just received a new hat that seems to have a dent/crease in the middle of the brim. You can't really see it, but if you pass your fingers across it you can definitely feel it. It feels like a weak spot in the felt when pinched between the fingers. Is this of any...

Fifty Shades of what in the HELL is she talking about?

You mean like the fedora she's wearing here in New York?

    Tell Me This Isn't Normal

89quattro....I couldn't agree more. Why should anyone have to patch up or repair a $175 hat. I do all my own maintenance on my vehicles and feel very comfortable doing so. With that being said...I shouldn't have to change out brake pads on a brand new vehicle because the factory installed them...

    Tell Me This Isn't Normal

Lol...the 8# monofilament sticking out of the ribbon. I saw that on mine as well. And here I am thinking that it's normal as this is my first real fedora. I hope the replacement Chatham they send is without issue. I would think that after bringing it to their attention that they would give the...

    Tell Me This Isn't Normal

I was thinking the same thing...it's not right and I shouldn't have to fix it. So I called Delmonico and explained the situation to them, and the response I got literally blew me away! He immediately apologized that they did not catch that before sending the hat out. They are sending a new...

    Tell Me This Isn't Normal

So I just got in a brand new Stetson Chatham and the hat looks beautiful and the style is perfect. I love everything about the hat...everything except the ribbon. More specifically where the ribbon is bound to the hat itself. There is a painfully obvious area where the stitching around the base...

Where To Buy a New Hat

Bushman...I was curious if the Chatham that you ordered from Delmonico came with the Stetson pin or with the sewn in the ribbon Stetson tag.

Where To Buy a New Hat

Sounds like Delmonico it is. I really like the Stetson Chatham. The crown height and shape are perfect. I was worried about the brim being too wide...but after posting some photos wearing one...the great advice here has since convinced me otherwise. This will be my first fedora so I was a...

Where To Buy a New Hat

So I've decided on the hat...now where to get it from (online...as I have ZERO hat shops nearby). I've called Delmonico Hatters in New Haven, CT with some questions and they've been super nice and very helpful. Would they be a good choice, or is there better online hat shops out there?

    New Guy Needs Advice

Not necessarily determined to go with a smaller brim, just determined to get the right hat. I figured posting a picture with a smaller brim for comparison would help in the decision making process. I do, however, greatly appreciate all the feedback.

A friend of mine brought in one of his Stetson 2" brims to let me try on. What do you guys think compared to the 2 3/8" brim Caribou in the first pictures?

    What Size Hat To Buy

The Caribou Stetson was a 7 1/8. It fit loose but didn't move on my head when shook side to side and didn't fall off when I bent over. The dark grey Belfry is a Small...and is well...too small. I believe it goes up to a 6 7/8.

    What Size Hat To Buy

My head measures almost right on 22" (56cm) which is a size 7. If I pull the tape snug it falls just under the 22" inch mark. Is that the size I should order, or should I go up to a 7 1/8 to account for shrinkage?

    New Guy Needs Advice

Ok...so after much thought and scrutiny...I believe that I'm convinced you all are spot on about the brim width. I looked over the comparison pictures and asked several family members their opinions as well. The only answer I ever got...here and there...was that the Chatham with the 2 3/8" brim...

Here is another picture for comparison with a cheap Belfry Bogart. It's a center dent 4" crown with a 2 1/4" brim. Although I think the brim is curved much more on this one....I actually prefer it (talking about brim width) Maybe that's just me not being comfortable with a wider brim.

A hat newbie, but not for long!

Historyteach...what is that 2 inch stingy brim you're wearing in the first picture? It reminds me of the Saxon that I keep going back to.

    New Guy Needs Advice

Thanks for the replies everyone. I don't know why, but I keep going back to the Saxon. I love the 60s Mad Men look with the shorter brim. Unfortunately there was no Saxon to try on to make the comparison. Is it a consensus that the shorter brim would not look as good?

    New Guy Needs Advice

Thanks everyone. I was worried about crown height and brim width. I definitely don't want to go any higher with the crown, but I was wondering if a narrower brim would suit me better. I went to the store after scouring the Internet having my mind made up that I was going to order a Stetson...
