Anyone interested in noir fiction?
If you're planning on writing such a story, might I suggest the American film Murder By Death? While it lampoons the entire detective genre, I think it gives humorous insight into the less savoury aspects of each of the great Golden Age (American) detectives.- Josh B.

Fedoras on a budget???
I've got to say, depending on what occasions you plan to wear the hat, wool felt is fine. I personally wear a wool felt hat for everyday wear and some casual events. I've had good luck with the Village Hat Shop for these kinds of hats-- although I now covet that Akubra... As for second-hand...
