:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap Ooooh - and a burgundy pleated tie too! Very drool-worthy! I have one very similar to the black and white tie on the left of the first image - I actually wore it to work today with a red v-neck sweater, black dress shirt, and beige silk...

    Post New Hats Here!

Er...I don't know what a "Tom and Jerry" is, but it says "Knox fifteen" on the sweatband. I was wondering about the edge too, if it is the famed cavenaugh - I will take close-up pics of it soon and post to get your opinions. I am supposed to be writing my art history lecture for tomorrow...

I still haven't made up my mind how I feel about this style of ties..I kinda like them....but then again....[huh] I do like the color combination in the blue and yellow one - very sharp! I saw one recently at an estate sale, and didn't buy it. :eusa_doh: I regret it now, but I turned it...

Thanks! I can't wait to see the eBay ties in person. The seller had quite a few of them up for sale (looked like well over 100) - said he was selling off his entire collection. I wish I'd had more money to pick up another dozen or so, but as it is I stretched the budget pretty far picking...

Just wanted to stop by and show off this funky tie I just picked up for my hubby for $2 at a thrift shop. Based on what I have read here, I believe it to be 40's - it is a silk/rayon blend, is nice and short (a good 6 inches shorter than contemporary ties), nice and wide (4.5 inches, if I...

    Post New Hats Here!

Wow - everybody has such great hats! I just posted pics of a couple of my hubby's on the "Diamond Authority" thread, I thought I'd post more here. Hubby loves old hats (and ties, argyle socks, suspenders, and, and, and). We were able to pick up some real nice hats for $10 each (with hatboxes)...

Beaver Resistol Here's hubby's new Resistol. The color was hard to capture - it's a deep greenish brown. More brown than green, but definately with a green cast to it. The hatband is black. Any shiny spots are just the camera flash, and not "worn shiny" spots on the felt. <a...

    The Diamond Authority

Thanks, fellas! Submitted for your approval is hubby's "new" to him Knox. We purchased it at an estate sale for $10. We were told that the original owner (who had STACKS of hatboxes with hats - we came home with three that fit hubby's noggin/taste) was a local banker. He also seemed to be...

    The Diamond Authority

Would it be alright with you gents if I submitted pics of my hubby's hats for entrants to the Diamond Authority? I can't convince him to check out this site himself, so I will have to be his proxy for now. [huh] He loves old hats and ties, and has some pretty cool examples of both. -Sherri

How to clean vintage barkcloth with dry rot?

That's exactly how I cleaned my barkcloth curtains when I first got them, and they turned out beautifully. Mine were pretty badly yellowed by nicotene, and most of it came out by soaking (and mild agitation by hand) in a solution of warm water and dish detergent in the bathtub. If you can...

    Cocktail Cabinets

While mine's not as cool... ...here's my cabinet: Definately more modest than some, but is fits my small house ;) Here it is open: And just for fun, here's a closeup of some of my vintage barware (and yes, I've used most of it): The light doesn't work anymore. I keep...

Show us that clock up above to the right! I have a Welby that looks similar! Lee Here is a more complete pic of it in it's natural habitat. It says "Waltham" on the face, although the clockwork on it didn't work when I found it in mom's basement, so I replaced it a couple of years...
