    Briefcases

Thanks for the tip on the custom hide - it looks pretty good. Looks like you could cram a lot in there. What is the leather like? I am looking for really heavy, durable leather. I don't intend to baby whatever I end up getting. One of my co-workers has one of the original army briefcases (that...

    Briefcases

Thanks for the pictures. I like what I see. Is this bag pretty expandable (if need be)?

    Wallets

Coach Among my personal favorites are the coach buffalo skin wallets. It gets a really nice patina the longer you own it and the leather is really durable. It is also tan/ochre colored - not black. I notice that nowadays they put their logo on the outside (ughhh!) though.

    Briefcases

Atlas briefcases? I have been looking for a new (or new old) briefcase. I am an engineer that works home a couple of days a week, so I tend to shuttle lots of stuff back and forth (no laptop though!!). I like the old 'army style' briefcases that have the latches with several holes and the...

    What's your favourite porridge?

Ordinary Quaker oats, with 3-4 teaspoons of oat bran. 1 cut up Granny Smith apple, with a ton of cinnamon (no sugar). My every day breakfast. Another one that is good is barley - mill it in a coffee grinder, add to boiling water until thick.

    Pocketwatches

I bought one on eBay a couple of years ago. No use for it, just loved the way it looked. It is a Longines hunter case in coin silver, from 1903 (dated from serial number). The case features an art-nouveau floral design in repoussee. I think it is just timeless. One of these days, I am going to...

    Help for picking fountain pens

Fix Waterman Opera?? I have a Waterman Opera that I bought years ago and never use as it was dropped and suffered a little damage to the nib. I think it is repairable. I keep meaning to find someone to fix it, but haven't gotten around to it. It looks like a pretty good pen. Anyone know of a...

    Help for picking fountain pens

Pelikan I bought an M800 (black) on eBay a few years ago and I think it is the best writing pen I have ever used. They are too expensive in the stores - around $400 IIRC, but you can get one for less than half that on eBay if you are patient. The Aurora blue ink works very well in it - nice...

    The miracle of champagne.

It is just such a damned happy drink! You can drink it to celebrate, or because you are bummed out and need cheering up. That is what I love about it. I think what many people need to get over is the idea that you need an occasion or a reason to drink it - "its tuesday" is enough of a reason...

    Fountain Pen Ink Questions

Aurora blue I can only speak to blue - never really cared for black ink personally... I really like the Aurora blue ink. It has a slightly violet cast to it - it reminds me a bit of the blue in the old supermarket price marking guns - a really vivid, rich blue-violet. It depends a bit on the...

Your favorite Scotch? Your Favorite liquor in general?

Laphraoig I grew up with a father who had very refined tastes in scotch (his everyday favorite was the 12 yr old macallan). I tried many kinds that he had bought and found I liked the peatier ones. I think my favorite is Laphroaig (the 10 yr old is the only one I have tried). I bought it to...

    Pencils

A Rotring 600 mechanical pencil (unfortunately no longer produced). Solid brass and a beautiful feel. I alternate between this and a Pelikan M800 fountain pen. The results of a long quest....

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

"Hat, sun, hot weather Type II MIL-SPEC-H-43577" (the hat with the little loops in the headband for gosh knows what). Utterly shapeless, but super comfortable for yard work in the sun My wife says "it's your style".
