Thank you! I pretty much figured that clip ons never became popular with people who wore suspenders every day, especially working people, as they would slip off.
Thanks!
I've just been asked if someone costuming the play Night of the Iguana, set in 1940 should use clip or button suspenders. I *think* it's button, but I haven't been able to find any documentation (in a quick search) to back myself up. I do see that clips were invented in 1894.
I intend to look...
How about a skirt? Skirts are easy to make. Go with a Simplicity pattern when they're on sale at Joann's for $1. Look for the package to say that it's a beginner or easy pattern. I'm not sure if Simplicity has it, but Vogue has "body shape" symbols on it as well, to help you decide if a pattern...
If you have a t-shirt, pick it up and look under the hem. There is usually a stitch that looks like a zigzag with a chain stitch at the edges. That's overlock.
What's usually reported in fashion is what the young, wealthy, cutting age set are doing. In the 20's that group wasn't really wearing corsetry; they were mostly wearing camisols and loose tap pants.
Anyone that had a large bust or was poor or was over their mid-twenties was probably wearing...
Review of classes:
Most of the classes were lecture, but the following were limited, hands-on classes:
Glovemaking
The best class I took! It was great, and I came out of the class with one glove mostly completed that really fit my hand. The class was 5 hours, so you can see that...
I had great fun at Costume College, too! It was great meeting Lauren and Vanessa, and I hope to see them again for the Queen Mary in November.
I took fewer classes, because due to a machine failure, I was still sewing my tea dress an hour before the tea!
Classes:
Glove Making
Overview...
So do I. They've been there since last year's Costume College. :( I can't even think about sewing anything other than cancan dresses until Worldcon is over, but then I hope to slow down my schedule for a LOT more sewing.
The glove making class at Costume College was great, but I'm not sure exactly what tips I can pass along.
Putting the thumb in was very bizarre. I had to have it described, see a pattern, and actually do it before I really figured it out. It's put in sort of upside-down and backwards and...
I haven't made it myself, but two of my friends have made it. IOne used a champagne color and one used a deep red (just like on the pattern envelope!). Both were lovely.
I will warn you that there's a possibility the center back is sized wrong. Both of the people I know who made it...
You can use a scrap of beautiful fabric as decor on a hat. You don't even have to use it as a bow or anything, just a lovely fabric swirl lightly tacked down.
I've been trying to get a group together to make these costumes for years! I don't have an embroidery machine, so I wasn't sure how to get the patches.
This is very weird wheather for July. At my house it shouldn't get above the high 80s, and it should cool off very quickly at night. I had all the windows open last night, but it never cooled off.
It's like we bypassed July and went straight to September.
