Mine was and Eastman A-2 back when Gary only made house A-2s in russet and only ran little black and white ads in the trade paper 'Exchange and Mart'.

If your AN-J3 is like the repro Aero offered then it will have an A-2 type wind flap and epalettes; other than that the construction was very M422a/G-1 like.
I seem to recall Ken stating that they had AN-J3 labels made up for repros when they were offering them.

Repro Aero Leather Beacon NJ Anniversary A-2 from Aero Scotland. Seal Brown 44" with mid brown Cuffs. Worn only half a dozen times; will exchange for a size 46" ELC, Goodwear or Aero A-2.

I've had both (originals) but I'm now down to to repro A-2s so I guess that answers the question.
If you want the best of both worlds then the AN-J3 is the jacket. I had an original which I part exchange with Aero a few years back; I'm not too sure what happened to it as it didn't seem to...
I'm sure Ive seen a picture of James Dean wearing what appears to be a goatskin A-2 (Just a shoulder shot); does any body know if he owned one and if there are any pictures available?
