Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

So the 80s fashion trend that was 40s inspired is still in peoples' minds! I don't get comments, but I'm always in big cities where it's just not that unusual. I on occasion get told I look like Rosie the Riveter, even though really I don't at all.

    What are you listening to?

I've been listening to Pandora's New Orleans/Classic jazz station. It's a good mix, although I also wish they'd have the two separate.

    The Middy Thread

Has anyone ever tried using the Middy length at top and on sides so rolls are easier, but leaving the back very long? My hair is waist length, I'm growing out Bettie bangs and I keep wanting to try this so I can wear rolls more easily. But I'm afraid I will end up with a feathered/1970s cut...

"Here's looking at you, kid" and what might get you slapped

I'm not even certain what 'thicker than a snicker' means! I don't really want to know.

Quirky things that people have done 'in the day' that people would gasp at today..

My grandpa used to take my mom into the bar to see his friends, because she was so little and cute and he wanted to show her off.

    The "Annoying Phrase" Thread

There used to be an entire website devoted to those moments in tv. Now it's just part of tvguide.com. :/ http://www.tvguide.com/jumptheshark/ ( the old url directs there.)

    What are you listening to?

Sigh. I cannot get "The Time Warp" to stop playing itself over and over in my head. Once was fun. Twice was okay. But it's been hours now. GAH. Ok good now I am listening to a song from On a Clear Day You Can See Forever- I think it's called Go To Sleep. Which I am now going to do.

    VintageGoth?

Yes, but there are labels, and there is being part of a subculture or two. For me, because I was in the goth subculture so very long ago to begin with, it's never been about labels even though that is what people like to say. But if you are naturally of a dark aesthetic and your personal culture...

    Rosie the Riveter

It makes sense. The days of WW2 were the first time many women had a taste of what it was to be something other than a homemaker. For many, I'm sure all they wanted was to get back to home and hearth but they were doing their duty and usually happily so for the war effort. (I would have been one...

    Can the Snood Save Christmas?

At least this is the kind of thing that won't last long. If it sells, everyone will buy and wear them for a season or two, and then no one will wear them. Like ponchos were a few years ago, just a trend for those who only know how to follow what 'fashion' tells them to.

    Cute Vintage-y Shoes

^They all have suede soles, it's an Aris Allen thing, and a sole for swing dancing, which is what the shoes are for.

    Rosie the Riveter

My niece's school recently had superhero day, they were to dress up, obviously, as their favorite superhero. She went as Rosie. :D

    Can anybody recommend some music?

There are some great recommendations here. Based on your mentions, I want to second or third (or whichever) the Ella Mae Morse, Cab Calloway, as both rocked out long before their time. You can find both on lastfm.com easily enough.
