What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

I watched Chinatown the other day. I've seen it before but only once, maybe twice, and never as an adult. Better and more intricate than I remember. Haunting. Good quotable moments throughout.

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

I was more referring to what was said, not necessarily how.

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

In the sense that people in the American South tend to colloquialise all soft drinks as "Coke," not just Coca Cola? And though I've not read Chandler's Marlow (on my list, bookstore picked out and everything), my research indicates that despite inconsistencies, Marlow ages with the century...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

I watched Marlowe, with Liam Neeson in the titular role, a few days ago. I enjoyed it, it was well made but with a few tweaks it could have been great, more on that later. Neeson is great as Marlow (or is it Marlowe? ), and the production design is top notch. Good suits, good cars, good hats...

Been working through my Bogies. Last night was The Big Sleep (1945 version).

    Jim Green African Ranger boots

Had to look up Lofgrens. There's about a $900 difference between the boots I linked in the OP, and the ones pictured in the first reply.

    Jim Green African Ranger boots

Probably as a three seasons boot. May test a few winter excursions. I remember reading one of their descriptions to say it was insulated well, but can't remember which boot it was for.

    Jim Green African Ranger boots

Saw these pop up recently , and wondered if anyone has used them. https://jimgreenfootwear.com/store/african-ranger-brown/ Apparently they took a lot of notes and requests from African Wildlife Rangers and produced this boot (and a few others). They make them in South Africa with local...

Civilian Conservation Corps Clothing Reference Site

Could be of interest to some of you, as it is, me. I found a website devoted to the clothing of the CCC. https://sites.google.com/view/ccc-uniforms/home I was specifically looking for info on the lumber jacket in red Buffalo Check pattern, and stumbled onto an Archeophile's gold mine. Enjoy!

    I love the Fed IV!!

Quite right. 120-130 would (presently) cover MOST of the price of an Akubra. Especially since my kettle can keep it's spout cap open.

Those of you with hard water, any problems from steaming your hat with tap water?

    The Adventurer's Gear Thread

Realizing the following... I'd like to ask if there is some hiking gear that take advantage of today's knowledge, maintains a 'vintage' appearance, and won't break the bank?

New Member to the Hat Forum

None taken. Through text sarcasm is hard to convey reliably. I was curious.

Another testament to their cust. service, I explained my fears of disproportionate head to hat appearance, and they sent a picture of Pat wearing one. Apparently his noggin is similar to mine. He looks great in it so my fears have been dispelled.

Being new to the world of hats, what are the pros and cons of dimensional and nondimensional brims?

I didn't properly congratulate you for those pics. Good hat, good afectations, good backdrop. Also proves my suspicion that the Tawney goes well with blue(?) clothing. I hope to one day have such adventures.

    I love the Fed IV!!

One of the questions I asked the Katoomba team was about sizing up. Heard the leather sweat bands in Akubras can shrink if you use it as an 'activity' hat. Which I plan to do. I asked if the half size up would be enough or if I should consider a 63. They said they'll earmark a hat for me...

Well I hope my future "roomy 62 or small measuring 63" looks good on my 61.5 head.

That would be the Akubra Dreadnought, or something. You should email it to them as a suggestion. If their cust. service is anything like The Hattery Katoomba they'll at least listen.
