Personally I value comfort, so having a bit more room to play with is welcome. Never been a fan of skinny stuff, but I do worry that I might lean too much in the opposite direction, which can look unkempt.
Of course, I can see why someone would appreciate the armor-like qualities of the stiffer leathers. I haven't had a chance to make a purchase, but personally I quite enjoyed goatskin's softness and scuff resistance from playing with the samples. I know it's not the most popular choice though.
Have you considered ordering some leather samples? Getting a feel for the different types of leather offered might help. If you want something that doesn't need break in.. maybe their soft grainy steerhide? I quite like the sample I got of it but I don't know if there are things that are only...
I'll have to check if there are any stores close by with Rockys or Thorogoods in stock. Samuel Hubbard is a bit out of my price range and somewhat dressier than I would like.

Those are all way to expensive for my budget. I was hoping somewhere within 300-500. I know it's hard to get decent quality at that range. But I don't feel I can justify a big ticket purchase on my first jacket.
I'm interested in finding a flight jacket with leather cuffs, waistband and collar, as well as side entry hand warmer pockets. So far I've seen that some commercial airlines use jackets like that in their uniforms. I've found a couple of options for sale but I have no idea regarding quality and...
