Wow. Thanks to all on this thread for showing so many nice pics of this underrepresented hat. I've already looked up Levine Hat Co. in St. Louis for Newmexexpat's hat, couldn't find it there...but that one is really neat. What a wonderful solution for both heat and humidity when, at...

    The $100,000 hat

Does the truth differ from "what is stated" ? We'd all benefit from what you know, so help us out, huh.

    Hat Suggestion

Black Homburg may be the only option. I agree with the others on that score.

The most expensive hat in the world?

Wow. Thanks, Tomasso, similar memories here from that one, seen the movie only once, however, and that was enough for a lasting impression of her with his hat. I can still hear her cooing "Tomasz".

The most expensive hat in the world?

I think surely there's an idea here for a new thread. Beautiful women wearing the hats of which we're so fond. Immediately, Lena Olen (sp? ) comes to mind in that movie based on the Milan Kundera novel, what was it, the Unbearable Lightness of Being ? If I knew something about technology at...

Alan, those are really nice brims ( as many say in Texas ). But those ribbons, goodness, they must be among a vault of spectacular vintage ribbons Mr. Fawcett has, I've seen so many on the forum; they really make them stunners. Where in the world does that stuff come from? Nice.

Gee thanks, Lefty, you certainly got us most of the information we needed in that shot.

The most expensive hat in the world?

Marc, I'd personally like to see more of the girl before deciding. That's a lot of money, particularly in light of the commodities market these days with respect to platinum.

I'm guessing the happy smiley face thing means that you could do that? How much would we have to pay to get all of them? Are you selling that many? If so, that certainly sheds some light on the predatory pricing of your competitors. If those aren't all being purchased by someone, on the other...

    Panama Hat Thread

Bob, no kidding, you think you could swipe as many as 200-300 hats like that in a year ? Good ones ? Pile, I recognize, would be the best place to go, but you think you get just as good elsewhere ? I'm just learning.

The most expensive hat in the world?

Bravo, there you go...it's settled then. Surely the most expensive hat in the world. I wonder if the usual suspects could give us something like that in straw. Depending on how your taste may run, I'd put my money on Milton, actually, he advertises some pretty expensive hat trim.

The most expensive hat in the world?

Aerol, I wonder what you thought about the hat. I bet it was absolutely beautiful. I know that Mr. Black has sold at least 2 hats for 25,000USD. I've heard of 2 other sales, one for 30,000 and another for 25,000 that I'm not in a position to confirm. Wouldn't it be interesting, though...

    Panama Hat Thread

As to commercial viability of really finely woven hats, I think you've identified something I haven't thought about yet, as we think of how good these things could really have been. Seems to me you have 3 issues: 1) the limits of the person weaving the hat; 2) the limits of the material; and 3)...

    The Hat Confessional Thread

Mario, you know, after you posted that in response to my hat confessional, I went back to figure out what it is that may have given you the wrong impression about my post. What I say about Panamabob is said without irony, if that's with whom you might have thought I had some personal issue...

    The Hat Confessional Thread

I love this thread and hope you keep it going. In the spirit of things, I offer these: - I also probably would not wear many of the custom felt hats I see on the forum, but then I live on the Texas coast, so that makes me a panama person, the latter being chosen probably 8-9 months out of...

Bob's right, keep buying the hats. That one is beautiful. Buy more and the people will benefit, that's what we have to do.

Thanks, Bob. I actually wear this one a lot when the weather's right. Here on Galveston Bay, though, it's beginning to be more appropriate for something like the open weave you posted, getting hot, very hot and humid. Go figure...hats from the tropics sometimes don't do so well...in the tropics.

    Panama Hat Thread

Oh, and HT, thanks for helping us focus on the hats. I didn't answer all your questions. No, the fedora pictured is not the one advertised by Brent as the 5 month hat. Mine is reported to have been a 3-4 month hat. I think the 5 month hat is actually quite a bit more finely woven. Good...
