    “Back” Waistcoats

Hi all, I recently got this nice waistcoat from Walker Slater: https://www.walkerslater.com/edward-tweed-back-waistcoat As someone who doesn’t wear suit jackets I much prefer my waistcoats to have a regular cloth / non-shiny back like this one. I’m having trouble locating alternatives to...

Vintage evening waistcoats for white tie in London

I’ve a ball this summer, and have been looking for white tie. I’m rather small (approximately 26–8 in waist unless I have a porterhouse or something to myself) which poses something of a difficulty. So far, I’ve found a coat and even trousers of sufficiently high rise; I’ve a bow tie for subfusc...

Waist covering with 1930's double breasted black tie?

Dear fellow Fedora lounge members, I have a question, for which I wasn't able to find a proper sartorial answer in my beloved Apparel Arts or Esquire drawings :-) When wearing a classic double breasted dinner jacket during autumn/winter time, what is the proper waist covering? I dislike the...

Help dating a backless DB morning waistcoat

Hi all, Does anyone have any ideas about this waistcoat? It's backless, so must be post-1923 (though I think it's probably much later than that anyway), it has what looks like would have originally been four buttons for a slip (only one remains) and the buckle reads 'SOLIDE'. Thanks!

Is a black waistcoat acceptable with White Tie?

I'm probably never actually going to NEED to know, but I'm curious as to whether or not a classic black evening waistcoat would be considered permissible with Full Evening Dress/White Tie. I heard somewhere that it was allowed in the Victorian era, but that it went out of fashion after 1901.
