1930's Belts: How Wide?

I would have thought that the belt should fit in the belt loops of the particular trousers one is wearing. A 1" belt in a 1.5" loop might look too small, whereas a 1.5" belt in a 1" beltloop is impossible

In summary, depends on the trousers

You are indeed correct. My Dickies 1922 reproduction pants have wide loops accommodating a 1.5" belt. Thank you.
