The local library has a display of ladies' hats. Of course, I snapped photos to share.

Interesting hats. Upon reflection, it may be that the reason women today don't go for hats is that in the 1930s, 40s and 50s, women's hats often had a frivolous look, either for ditzy housewives, airhead socialites, or bimbos. Only a few were consonant with serious working women. Nowadays, the only women out there are serious working women. So a new tradition would have to be established to sell ladies' hats in the current day, perhaps closer to men's felt hats, that reflects seriousness as well as style. Every time I see ladies' hats in a 30s or 40s movie, the style seems to scream "not serious." Even Jackie Kennedy's pillbox hats of the early 60s would not be welcome now on women. If this is a correct analysis, then hat designers should get busy making something suitable to this decade.

I have to disagree with you Dan. I tend to be attracted to and wear a cloche, but I love those hats and would wear some of them, if I had the occasion. I don't work (for a paycheck), I am a homemaker, but I am not ditzy, an airhead nor a bimbo :p

Lovely hats Scott. Thank you for sharing them.

Lovely. The thing about pre 20s hats for women is that they were an event. They were big big and big. After the start of the 20s and the flapper look, I feel hats for women began to accent a costume, not dominate it. That purple 40s number, awesome!!
