A Small Leatherworking Journey from a Vintage lover

For the past decade, I’ve been collecting vintage Americana, military pieces, leather jackets, boots, and anything with real history behind it.

And somewhere along that journey, I realized something which
I could never find a belt that truly matched my taste.

Something tough, long-lasting, and simple enough to wear with anything.

I looked at new makers as well brands like RRL, Kapital, and a few others.

Beautiful work, of course, but at a price where I’d rather buy a lifetime leather jacket.
So I decided to try making my own.

Nothing fancy just at my small home workspace.

I visited a local leather shop, picked up some hardware and Canadian veg-tanned cowhide, and began experimenting with my own custom builds.

I made two for myself to practice, and then a few more for family and close friends as I gradually learned the craft.

To my surprise, I really enjoyed it.
It’s challenging, but deeply satisfying and maybe I do have a bit of a knack for it.
I thought I’d share a bit of this journey with you all here, since many of you appreciate the old ways and hand crafted work.

I’m not posting my personal account, and nothing here is for sale just sharing the process, the mistakes, and the fun of learning something new.

Not for sale. I won’t be sharing my personal account

Looks great, well done. You’ll save some money in the long run by making your own, plus have the satisfction of knowing you made them. I dig it.

Appreciate it.
I started making my own because I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted turns out that’s half the fun.

Adding something without erasing what’s already there.

Before / after and the process in between.
No-name 1970s cowhide double rider jacket,

hand-studded by myself in an early 80s punk style.

Took me three days straight little sleep, sore fingers
but I’m quietly happy with how it turned out.

A bit much for me but I’m all for customizing and personalizing leather jackets. Life is too short to wear a boring black xzip.

It was actually a jacket I made for a friend almost killed me, not gonna lie

Not really my taste either lol, my guy has some very special taste.

Painful, but honestly a lot of fun
