Aero Leather Goatskin for "dadass jackets"

Dear members,

i´m currently looking into a Windward or Highwayman jacket. The colour is clear - black. But i´m not sure if Goatskin will work on this type of jackets. I want to have a jacket in Goatskin, but i also want to have either an Aero Windward or a normal Highwayman. If the jackets would be made out of Vicenza, CXSH, CXFQHH or other "stiffer and cleaner" leather, i wouln´t ask. But i can´t put the idea of a jacket in Goatskin aside.

What do you think - could either a Windward or a Highwayman (Brass zipper) made out of Goatskin have the so called "badass" look?

I´m honestly not sure, because of the softness of the Goatskin and the grained surface

I have never seen Aero's goatskin in person, and I don't believe I've ever seen a goat Aero on sale or being talked about here on TFL. I have heard people on TFL say that their goat is really good stuff, with softer drape and doesn't start out stiff and need breaking in. From what I hear it doesn't patina much if at all as it ages. If I wasn't so taken with Horween CXL FQHH an Steer, I'd probably be more curious about it. Your best bet is to ask Holly, and order some sample swatches.

I bought an Aero board racer in goatskin from a TFL member and it's a fantastic jacket. Lovely soft feel with a nice drape without losing shape. Jet black and nice and grainy. Not sure how it would work for a highway man, but now I'm curious.

This ^
CXL it is not but it's thicker and heavier than Vicenza.
Not a HWM but maybe this will give you an idea.

I have a 50s Half Belt in seal goat. It will only patina after many years and it is more flexible than any of the other hides I’ve handled (steer, fqhh, Vicenza), but Vicenza is closest. I have not handled any Pinnacle HH. It is very abrasion resistant and water resistant and is lighter than other hides. I have an SB Klondike in black goat and I think that goat is fantastic for jackets like the Klondike and the Rockafella.

I’d still pick dark seal Vicenza given my time again, though. It’s less pliable (marginally) and I prefer the colour and lack of shine a little over goat, but there’s not much in it, tbh. Top two pics are of the seal 1950s HB and bottom one is of a dark seal Vicenza Mariner.

With a boxier design like the Highwayman I tend to prefer a drapier hide. Goat is good, also the lighter (non-CXL) cowhide that Aero do. The premium horsehides like Vicenza are very lovely indeed, though I'm not sure I'd pay an upcharge for them if it wasn't a standard option on a particular model.

For a Highwayman, the best bargain imo are the Apprentice jackets when they come up, or to buy a stock option. Does mean you can't order any custom options like an inside pocket, but I have an apprentice made (badged as a blue label, as this one was made in early 2012 before the Robin Hood label was introduced) model I've had for over a decade and it's a cracking jacket. In that midweight cowhide, which I think perfect for the design. I'd certainly consider goat if it came up as an option in a brown one (not that brown goat is any better than black, just my existing jacket is black).
