Aero Premier Highwayman sizing

Hello everyone, I’m new here, just opened an account a few weeks ago and need some advice regarding the Aero Premier Highwayman.
I’m no expert by any means when it comes to leather jackets, I learned a lot from you guys and have some understanding when it comes to measurements, etc.
Just to give a little context, my chest size is 36 ( 6ft tall, 152lb), I own a Schott 641 in my regular size and fits perfect, zipped or unzipped, the sleeves are a tad short but sizing up to a 38 wouldn’t have made much of a difference, it would have ended being just too baggy for my taste as I am very slim.
My second jacket is a stock Aero board racer j100 in pinnacle black, size 38… I decided to size up after reading lots of reviews and after comparing measurements ( pit to pit, shoulder) and I’m glad I did, it actually fits like a very slim size 36.
I placed an order through Aero just recently and I’m waiting for production to start on a Premier Highwayman, I decided to size up on this one after reading, watching videos, etc. but the info out there is very mixed and now I’m starting to hesitate, I did request adjustments on sleeve and back length and was told by Hollie at Aero that the fit is similar to the board racer so taking this into consideration, I don’t think my actual size 36 would be a great choice. What is your experience with this type of jacket? For anyone who owns one, is it the right choice to size up? Thank you so much, any advice will be very helpful before production starts so I can make some changes.

Hi nino, I sized my Premier Highwayman the same as my board racer(size 40) and it worked out very well. Obviously, they are very different jackets with different silhouettes, but both have roughly the same chest/shoulder numbers and high arm holes/slimmer sleeves. I did try to size down to a 38 with the Premier, and it was far too tight for me. I think the premier Highwayman is a great jacket.. I bought mine off the rack, but if it were a custom order I would have spec’d zip sleeves, because I personally dislike buttoned cuffs on my leather jackets. Since you are very slim, it might be worth asking Aero what they think about tapering body down to the hem a bit, based on your measurements. That seems to have worked out for some guys.

Welcome to the lounge.

I have had three Premier Highwaymen (is that the correct plural :)), and I can basically echo what @AerGuitar said: one size up from your chest size is the minimum due to a narrow shoulder/chest section and very high armholes.

My Rule of thumb with Aero that has always worked is:
- take your chest size for the patterns from the 1930s (e.g. Halfbelt, Majectic, Cafe Racer)
- size up one for the “Premier Line”.
- size down one from your chest size for the 1950s cuts (e.g. Original Hercules, standard Highwayman).

Sleeves and Backlength accordino to your needs in each case, of course.

That is really helpful sizing advice patterns can definitely be tricky to dial in.
Your rule of thumb is a great clear guide for anyone ordering their first Premier piece.

Thanks for laying this out so clearly sizing can be confusing without guidance like this.
That rule of thumb makes a lot of sense and will be really helpful for newcomers.

I would agree with others and recommend sizing up.

I had actually bought mine in my normal size 40 and had them widen the shoulders to the measurement of the size 42 and it was still too restrictive in the shoulders for me so I had to take a loss and sell it. If I had to do it over I would have purchased the size 42 and added shoulder gussets for mobility. But maybe the pattern just didn’t work for me.
