Hi, I spotted an unusual Akubra in a vintage clothing store today, unfortunately I did not have a camera on me to take a snap.

Basically it was a dark brown porkpie style hat - very low crowned and the brim probably around 2 1/4"-2 1/2". It was unlined but had the akubra symbol on the crown. On the sweatband it had Campdraft (although it may have been Camp Draft).
I did pop it out to see if it was the way it was creased, but even then it couldn't have been more than 4" high.

I thought that Campdrafts were high crown Open Road copies?
So was the name around and used for an incarnation prior to losing the licensing deal with Stetson?

Unfortunately it was a 54cm sizing... far too small for me.

Bill

P.S. I might try and pop along again to get a picture.

Anything like this?

A traditional OZ style crease if I am not mistaken.

If they were making them to the modern OR specs, then that crown height sounds about right. They could've been making both & only labeling some as Stetsons but I don't think Stetson would've put up with that. I wonder if they went back to taller crown after the contract with Stetson was over.
