Does anyone know if Art Fawcett does long hair finishes? If you've had one done by him could you post a photo? If he doesn't do them does anyone know of a good way of finding a long hair finish hat in 7 3/4?

Thanks,
Sam

It would depend upon the exact finish you are seeking. You should address the issue directly with him to see if what you are after is a type he can do for you. The Art Fawcett hall of Fame Thread has some examples. Optimo does have a range of these finishes and Beaver Brand has a couple as well.

Last time I talked to Art about this was right after he refurbed my Optimo long hair. At the time he said to give him some time since he was still mastering the process for velour.
Also there's a grey Optimo long hair in the classifieds right now. It's a 7 5/8 but Graham should be able to size it up one size.

Are you referring to a very long hair finish, peluche? Or just a slightly longer neap to the felt, like a velour?

Art can do a silk finish (as I take it, a slightly fuzzy and 'grained' appearance), and a velour finish, which is usually very soft and plush to the hand. Like velvet.

The Sanders (3rd down) is one of Art's velours. I don't think the picture shows the sheen of the felt, though.

I'm most interested in a really long hair hat. Something that looks like you might find a whole beaver crawling around inside if you dig in deep enough. The velour and silk finishes are interesting as well but I'm really thinking of trying to do something really different with long hair and some other distinctive features. Does anyone know of someone who would be good for very long hair finishes?

Any longer than the Biltmore you are looking at a fur hat not a felt hat, although it can be more of a **** rather than well groomed.

I would definitely want it to be felt, but with very long hair. It seems like I've seen a beaver brand peluche hat around that was very long. Also there was a green hat with very long hair that was being joked about.

I posted pics of a Beaver Brand rough peluche here in the Beaver Brand Impressions thread
http://www.thefedoralounge.com/show...-impressions&p=1176208&viewfull=1#post1176208

Beaver Brand also has a Grand Beaver finish seen here

Beaver Brand says that their peluche is the longest finish they do but after owning one for a couple of weeks now I'm willing to bet that eventually it will end up looking pretty much the same as a Grand Beaver as the rough finish gets brushed out.

More than one color and length of felt fibers for that type--must be dyed before felting and specially blended. Not a style seen outside of Europe.
