would anyone happen to know of a beaver fur felt manufacturer in italy that sells bodies?

You might try some Google searches for Italian Textile Wholesale, and that's assuming there are any sources of felt in Italy. Is it possible Italy purchases beaver fur felt from another country for their hats; e.g. China, America, UK, etc.?

The hat bodies arent made in Italy but Portugal. The compant name is called Fepsa. You can ggogle therir contact info. Perhaps they will sell you a body or two.

Is Borsalino still making felt (rabbit/hare or beaver or mix) for there own hats?

In this YouTube video Cervo/Barbisio are making felt that assume is only for their hats. Is this correct? I also seem to remember something about them having a special run with some beaver content.

I am not sure if Fepsa in Portugal sells hat bodies, but I can attest that they will sell you loose bleached beaver fur. I bought 5 lbs. from them. Rather expensive to import. Their website is: http://www.cortadoria.pt/ Contact: [email protected] Nuno speaks English.

Fepsa is the body producing plant. Cortadoria is the factory that produces the raw fur. The owners are brothers.

Steve, I just watched that video. Thanks for sharing. They are much more hands-on involved with the hats than say Stetson. Interesting.

Well, depending on what kind of material was in the lint, you could actually try making felt. There is a thread somewhere on here about the felting processing. Seems like they start with a slurry of chemicals and fur to create the felt which is then shaped into a manageable media. It would likely be a cotton felt of sorts...kind of like a flannel maybe. Haha, that would be an interesting experiment!

I don't think the fibers have the barbs that fur or even wool has that causes them to felt together.

This is true. However, wouldn't using cotton lint to make "felt" be a similar process as using denim lint to make paper? (We did that in grade school art class once...lol)

The final product obviously wouldn't be worth a d@mn, but you could fashion it into some kind of wearable product and sell it at Wal-Mart, I'm guessing.
