First Borsalino (I think I’ve spoiled myself for wool felt)

Hi all,

Not sure I’ve ever posted before, but since I’ve just acquired my first real hat I thought now might be the time.

I picked up a used Borsalino fedora for about $160, which judging from the label is a shaved felt superior quality Alessandria in chestnut with brown ribbon, dated 2011 if my understanding of the labelling is correct.

Honestly, it looks so good I think my wool felts will be more or less relegated to garden and field work duties because I had no idea rabbit fur felt would look and feel so good!

Now to work out how to wear it without looking like I should be in a suit!

Yes, I stand corrected: 2004. The 11 I think refer to the quality.

I think the 04 and 11 are not referred to the date of production. According to this label i can guess it's between 1983 and 2019, but maybe @steur can say more precisely ? The year of production where printed on the labels between 1976 and 1982. Nevertheless.....cool Borsa!!

It is 2004. The modern labels have either 6 digits (between 1984 and 1993), which don't say anything useable about the date, or 9 digits (1994-current) of which the first two are the production year.
