I kind of cheap out on my gloves. I wear leather gloves in the winter but they're usually from the mall or some other local store, nothing exciting. I beat the crap out of my gloves so having a "nice" pair is not really something that interests me right now. I'm sure someone around here knows about good gloves, though.
This has been my approach, too, since for me gloves are like socks, i.e. I destroy them. For some two decades now I just wear these gloves (below). Daily abuse destroys them after a couple years but that's long enough for me.

Wow, those are literally the exact gloves I'm currently wearing (destroying). They've done the trick for me so far. Mine have a 40g Thinsulate lining.

Freaking hell! Royal Mail has been hacked and Gold Top won’t ship until it resolves.

Yeah, I just heard about this this week (behind the loop, I know). Did they get to you yet? I think they have commercial international post out now, though domestic international post is still limited.

On a selfish note, why couldn't these ransomware guys have struck last Summer when I was writing about this? Would have been a great example to raise....

They sent it like 3 days later on 27th January but it left the UK on the 7th of February…

Still haven’t received them and I’m sure I’ll have to pay taxes on them and handling fees.

They would do well to use other companies like DHL. It isn’t more expensive and the service is way better. I guess they do it out of loyalty to the Royal Mail or something.

Could be a price thing too. The private couriers can be cheaper, but certainly not always so; it may also be the case they've negotiated a bulk discount with RM. A lot of folks still prefer RM within the UK, of course, because it's service has on balance tended to be better - you actually get notification of an attempt to deliver, your parcels get stolen far less often, and if you have to go and collect them, they're generally at an easily accessible office within walking distance, rather than two trains, three buses, and a significant walk to an out of town industrial estate.... RM has been in serious decline in terms of quality of service since the selloff (as was inevitable), but to be fair, this all seems to be linked to a hacking event that appears not to have been their fault.

Whatever the reason I picked them up today. They lied about attempting to deliver yesterday as I was the one to open the door...so yeah f*ck them.

I love them! The fleece feel so luxurious and warm. They fit over my leather jackets so that's great.

I'm doubting if I could have been able to go down a size but I guess better to err on the larger side than have them too tight. I'm certainly not sending them back after shipping and 24€ in taxes. All my other gloves from different brands have been L anyway and my measurements checked out.

It will take a bit of time to get the feeling of the Cluch and brake with these so I can't imagine using the merino wool. I'm not used to winter gloves and they fit different. I will look straight out of a time machine with these o_O

Ah, the universal experience of "we tried to deliver", the Biggest Lie since "cheque's in the post!"

Now delivery companies over here get accused of that so often, than when they *did* try, the response you get is a passive aggressive photo of your block door.... (often the *wrong* door in our block, which is the biggest part of the problem.... and a reason even if I'm not in for a few days I still have a lot of stuff delivered to my office).

Anyhoo, the gloves look great. I know what you mean on the sizing - I'm often between sizes on gloves myself (especially, it seems, so many are just a hair long in the finger for me), though It seems (even if it's psychosomatic, which I've not ruled out) they snug up after a while. These have a great, old-school look while still looking really practical. Be interesting to hear how they break in. They look good with both the black and the brown leather, too - as you anticipated.
