Big Head

Hey Guys,
What and where does a fellow with a big head find a good fedora? I wear a 7 7/8 and cant find a great selection to pick from. Also Im about 6 ft 8 inches tall. What do the experts suggest?

With a head that size custom is probably your best bet. I'd recommend Art Fawcett, you can see samples of his work here but there are also other custom hatters out there that others can recommend.

You can do what I do - put in an order for a size 63 Akubra and wait for 3 months

should be cheaper than a custom.

or check Akubra dealers and see if they have any in your size in stock. My local guy always has a couple of larger hats in different styles around. He orders them to just to have on hand for when those of larger cranial capacity drop in.

Yea, the Akubra's have been something I've been looking at. I have a few Stetsons but I was wanting something to change it up a bit. Maybe something where I can bash.my own dent for a personal touch. I would love to find an older classic hat but I don't think my big melon going to let that happen. Thanks for all of your input. The search continues.

Although he's not the approved supplier and does not carry the approved model of the Campdraft here,( it seems to be THE Akubra most of the "experts" here have,) the US importer of Akubra's, David Morgan up in Seattle, WA. carries almost all the Akubra models, albiet in a limited range of colors compared to the approved Australian retailers most folks use here. I've bought from DM for 30+ years and he has 2 things going for him, Fast 4/5 day shipping AND he carries most of his hats in sizes from 6 3/4 to 8 1/8 ! I just ordered my new Akubra. I went with the David Morgan Stylemaster pre-creased fedora. Still a little bit afraid of that bashing thing. One day I will man up and give it a try. Thanks for the input and I will let you know when I get my new shapo.
