Blemish on goatskin jacket

Hi guys,

I'm in the process of buying my first leather jacket. I've stumbled upon this older tank jacket from between the 1960-1980's, in my understadining, in black goatskin. However, seller is saying there's a blemish (please see the picture). It is rather large and he's said it won't come off using regular polish (he's tried).

Do you have an idea of what it could be and if it can be removed? What is your guys suggestion, buy or leave on the rack?

Have the greatest day,

It depends. How much do you like the jacket? How much does it cost? Can you live with the stain if it doesn’t come off?

Hard to tell if it can be removed without knowing what it is. If the seller is sure it can’t be removed, chances are he’s right.

You can try to gloss it over with shoe polish, but you‘d have to regularly re-apply and live with the rub-off. Not something, I’d be happy with.

If the jacket is priced accordingly, you can of course take the plunge. I suspect that a stain as clearly visible as that one will never “wear itself away” and will always taint your experience with the jacket.

You could just buy it to wear UNDER something like this guy is advocating:
Then the blemish won't be an issue.
Otherwise buy it as a beater jacket if you really like it otherwise and the price is real low.

This.

Paint it over. Use marker. It's what every leather clothes maker under the sun does.

Could it be paint where the wearer has leant against a door frame or similar when not quite dry?

The answer to your question lies in the fact you're asking. It concerns you now so will do so even more if you buy it. Likely to wear it a few times then think 'nope' and then you have to try and sell it on.

Wear and tear on a jacket is great whereas a stain is a different ball game.

As mentioned above, if it's cheap then take a chance. If not leave it.
