A few days ago, I picked up a nice Borsalino (one might call it a bowler/derby or a homburg, depending on how one punches up or shapes down the crown) at an antique shop in Fargo. There are two size tags—the more obvious hangs down below the inner leather sweatband and reads “7 ¼”; the other is under the leather sweat band and behind the back center lacing and also reads “7 ¼”, but to the right of that “7 ¼” is another number written in pen and that number is “14518.” Perhaps some Borsalino expert out there could tell me what that number means? I suspect it is some inspection number. Can one tell more about the hat by that number? (Like a specific date, place, where the hat was made? and etc.?)” Thanks. TedF
