Buzz Rickson have delved into their archive to reproduce a very rare civilian version of the USAF B-15 flight jacket.
During WWII production contracts were offered for manufactures to bid on, the cheapest and fastest being important factors; many companies unsuccessfully tried, but in the attempt gain access to the contact patterns, Colvinex was one of these companies, producing electrically heated flight suits for the military but also produced a run of B-15 'type' jackets for the civilian market.
Many details differ from the Air Force issued jacket, the most noticeable being the use of a Bedford cord jungle cloth shell most commonly found of the N-1 deck jackets instead of cotton / nylon twill. this alteration gives a much harder wearing outer with an added level of wind repellency. The off set zip has been centred to the body and cloth chin strap replaced by a leather buckle version.
All other details stay faithful to the B-15 specs, such as large mouton collar, alpaca lining, two snap closure internal pockets & corduroy lined external 'hand warmer' pockets and 100% wool knit ribbed cuffs and waistband in a 'red berry' colour as per the jacket in Buzz's archives.
A great civilian flight jacket with all the military practically and design with out so much of the demobbed overtones.
