Hello,

Can a vintage hat band be successfully dyed? I mean dying it in order to restore the original colour of a faded/discoloured band, not to change its colour.

Regards,

Daniel

If it is made out of a natural fiber (cotton, silk, etc.) - yes.
Synthetics like nylon & polyester won't dye.
If unsure of the textile try to find a few stray threads that can be carefully snipped. Hold them close to a match or lighter. If they melt, the hat band is synthetic material. If they burn, then it is natural fiber that can be dyed.
