Cap alteration

I bought a very nice tweed newsboy cap recently (on-line, so I couldn't try it on) that's exactly 57 cm, and my noggin is exactly 56. I've looked at from all angles to try to figure out the order of construction of it, but not being much of a seamster (is there such a word), I have no clue.
I've dabbled with asking a good tailor (not the nice lady at the dry cleaners who hems trousers) to take it in a cm.
Any opinions, suggestions?

I've had two caps altered at tailors. He did a fantastic job. Can't hurt to ask!
