Care/storage of shearling jackets

Hi FL - I’m a newbie to shearling jackets and I’m hoping to avoid any unintentional errors in how I use or store them.

At the moment I tend to store my jackets flat when not in use - it’s wearing season and both are in heavy use, so I tend to alternate between my D1 and Flyweight Irvin. The jackets are laid flat on a wide chair when not in use … which I’m guessing is fine as there’s no weight or pressure on them to deform them.

However … when spring comes my plan is to store them flat in a large zippered garment bag (some I’ve specifically ordered that are like huge zip lock bags that’ll have no way for moths/insects to get inside!).

The question is … am I over doing it? I’m super paranoid about moths doing damage to them during warmer months when our windows are open (I live in Ireland, air con isn’t ‘a thing’ here).

Thanks folks (as ever) for your help!

I'm also keeping mine laid flat, because I had read it was the way and it is actually the best way and place I have to put it at currently. This said...

Link to these? At the moment I have some zippered garment bags for my winter coats with some cedar wood balls inside and so far no problems, but always open to new methods :)

I think I got them on Amazon - they were listed as vacuum storage bags (you know the ones with a little valve that you attach the vacuum cleaner to in order to **** the air out - though obviously I don’t do that).

They’re fairly thick plastic too - so robust enough - and seemed like the closest thing to a huge zip lock bag.

I have never stored mine flat, all my shearling just hangs like regular jackets do, on wide coat hangers.
Never caused a problem in any way, one has been hanging for 20 years and isn't deformed or damaged in any way.

I do keep cedar block on the hangers with shearling jackets or shearling collars.

I use Ikea Dimpa bags to store Shearling and for that matter any other jackets that I'm not likely to wear for a while. You can get them on amazon if you don't have a local Ikea.
