Hello all, de-lurking to see if anyone can help me with an interesting little fashion diversion.
Watching Carry on Loving the other day I was quite interested to see a character wearing a matching shirt-tie combo in a Liberty print style. The film is from 1970 and the character is a dandified photographer so that makes sense. Over his tie, however he was wearing a number of chains; one looks like a cross, there are others.
It put me in mind of Simon Dee's look in the 1969 The Italian Job, Dee's character being a similarly modish tailor. Over his Liberty-esque matching shirt-tie combo he is also dangling something on a chain, it's not clear what.
So, both of these are British films, made in 69 and 70. It's obviously a pretty limited look, but are there other examples? Does anyone recall this brief fashion for jewellery over ties (matching ties at that)? And what was de rigeur for hanging over your matching shirt and tie? Was it anything particular ( it's not obvious, particularly in the Dee case, exactly what's on the chain). personally I think it's a good look, in the right setting. Dee is doing better than the photographer of course, but he was a very well-dressed man. Any recollections or ideas gratefully received.
