Coat size

With an overcoat, do you want your chest size, or do you want it a bit bigger for a suit your wearing under it? The coat I've been wearing was given to me, and I don't know the size, but I know it fits. So I just wanted to know before I buy another one. :fedora:

The way I understand it is that you just pick whatever size suitcoat you wear when picking an overcoat. They are made porpotionally(sp) bigger to accomodate a suitcoat underneath.
