My advice is always to serve some sort of food when serving alcohol--even if it is just chips and peanuts (olives and Twiglets are my favorite things to serve). Cocktails on a completely empty stomach can end badly for everyone.

From the 1944 Legendre Herbsaint cocktail recipe booklet.

I wonder if anyone has ever tried the glass of milk with sugar in it?

In the past, with some of the benders I went on, the idea of milk and sugar would have made me real green. Hiiiooooh!

I am curious to find more of these drinking "guides" from yesteryear.
Totally have a new research project! ;)

Cocktail advice: Edibles are wonderful, ice, ice and more ice and always have some coffee brewing.

Lastly, emergency clean up (someone is bound to get blotto, get them those snacks and some of that coffee and a good cab ride back to their place nice and safe).
I always mention to friends that they need to have an idea of how to get home (cab fare, ride from mutual friend, designated driver) if they know they're going to be kicking their heels up higher than usual!

Best wishes with your shindig and have a ball! :)
