Conditioning Sheepskin / Shearling

Has there been any definite consensus on how to condition sheepskin / shearling and what product is best suited for the job?

I know conditioning sheepskin coated with that shiny, plasticized lacquer (like the B-3) is pointless since the finish is basically plastic but what about the uncoated shearling? The kind that's got an almost sueded appearance.
