Coronado indigo blue deer leather jacket

Hi guys…I’m new to the forum and to premium leather jackets. I just purchased the blue indigo deer leather jacket from Coronado leather in size 42. It fits well and to my uneducated eye looks like very good quality. I’m concerned bc there is some fading that was apparent when I received it. Is this normal for a desired aged patina or is this poorly dyed leather that will not age well and look like **** down the road? Should I get a Japanese blue indigo horse hide instead (I paid $900 so it’s not like it was that inexpensive) thanks a lot and I’m looking forward to educating myself and controlling poorly thought out impulse buying lol.

if you like it and it fits you well, it doesn’t matter. $900 is not a small amount but you should spend as little as possible on the things like a jacket that would have brought you the same value anyways. Why overspend on a JP jacket if you couldn’t tell nor appreciate the difference between it and what you have already owned?

Japanese indigo horsehide jacket would also fade. Indigo is meant to fade, it doesn’t bind well to leather fibers, or cotton fibers for that matter.

Thanks a lot… yeah my main worry is this type of fading before I have even worn it normal for indigo treatment.

Are these the ones made in Mexico with some deceptive marketing language?

Yeah they are made in Mexico but the main leather plant and office is in San Diego and their Mexico location is 45 minutes away..it’s their location..supposedly…

Any 'indigo' jacket you get is gonna be fast patinaing to emulated fading jeans. I'd rather have a Japanese jacket for 2/3 the price than a mexico jacket but it might be a long time searching for something blue in your size etc.

Comparison is the thief of joy. You’re asking questions you’re not going to like the answers to.

You get what you pay for. $900 retail price can’t compare to Y’2 $1600 indigo horse at Standard and Strange or recently released Real Mccoys $6000 indigo horse A-2. They are not in the same league. No need to second-guess yourself and then regret your already-made decision.

No one can tell how fast your indigo jacket fades, except yourself. Whether you have owned it for 1 month, 1 year, or 10 years, you’re the only one keeping track of it. The speed of indigo fading is not indicative of quality.

Of course Japanese horse leather looks better. You should keep an eye on the second hand market. New clothes in the West have a huge price difference compared to those in Japan.

What? No, no that is not a fact. That is a weird hype. Let go of it. There’s nothing magical about Japan or things from Japan. There’s high quality stuff from there, for sure. As there is high quality things made in a lot of other countries. There’s also mid and **** tier stuff made there.
If you really believe in that statement you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.

If I'm looking really closely, I can maybe see slight fading on-top of the shoulder like it had some sun exposure while hung in a bring window. But it is not very apparent to me. Looks like a nice jacket, perhaps best to just wear it or if you are not satisfied, return it and move on.

I can’t see any fading on my screen. Not sure where I should be looking. Leather looks really nice imo!
Hey torfjord…here is a closer view.. thanks a lot

Hey torfjord…thanks a lot for the help…I zoomed in a little in an effort to show the fading. And this is how I received it..I’m ok if the fading is the normal part of creating a great patina..I’m not ok if this is indicative of a ****py job in the indigo dying. The deer skin looks and feels fantastic to my uneducated eye and the fit is great. Thanks again!

Jacket looks fine to me. Honestly $900 isn't bad for deer hide, assuming quality is good. How is the fit and finish of the jacket?
ProfG..I think fit and finish, stitching looks great..deer hide quality, thickness/robustness looks great..just concerned over the fading and if that’s a great thing for an interesting patina or a **** job in the indigo dyeing process. Thanks for the help!
