Anyone have an opinion on Dave Brown Hats? I've taken a look at the website www.davebrownhats.com and looks like some cool stuff, particularly the pork pie looking thing designated DB-1950, but what do I know. Thanks for your insights.

Dave Brown Hats

These various styles appear to run between 250 -320 bucks. Dave Brown is a custom hat maker and has created many various styles for the Hollywood studios. I remember calling him a while back to ask about cost and delivery of some fedora or another. If I recall, he had to be retrieved from the dry cleaners or laundromat he runs as his steady business. Seemed like a knowledgeable guy. But I didn't want to commit so much money for a hat.

Tom Hanks had all of his hats made by Dave. I've had long phone conversations with him. He loves what he does but for the price I would get an Optimo hat.

Hello:
to all my friends at FEDORA LOUNGE one must remember that you get what you pay for.
I have done 20 movies , we have won (HELPED ) 2 oscars in the past 2 years and been nominated numerous times. The worlds best costume designers must know something about Quality because they pay the same price you do and still supply the principals in the films with Dave Brown hats.
Other hatters make the EXTRAS hats (ASK OPTiMA)but for the stars and closeups their Dave Brown Hats.
I love what I do and will not take criticism from pseudo experts or those that claim false fame. I am a Master Hatter and will not lower my standards for the sake of commercialism . Ask your local hatter if he is a Master hatter, I will be glad to compare my work with anyones , my master granted me an apprenticeship and 5 years later made me a hatter , I paid my dues.
As you can see I am very sensitve about my love of my chosen field. Ask M.K. about Albert Wolski (Road To Perdition ) he is a real stickler for detail
M.K. worked on that movie.
Some say I can be cantankerous , I cant see it !! :)

respectfully
Dave Brown

You have done great work with your hats. To have someone post that your hats are "overpriced" is incorrect. Like "OPTIMO" (not Optima), he has EMPLOYEES that he pays, advertising, rent, insurance, workers compensation...you name it!

Films? You have done a great job. Optimo did "Road to Predition" and used 80+ hats (yes for the "extra's")..but Tom wanted YOUR hat, as he worked with you before.

You DO get what you pay for. Some vendors who I shall NOT mention, claim wild things..but never produce. Optimo, I have seen the shop and have many of his hats. He is a Master Hatter also, and like you, also apprenticed under an old time Chicago hatter.

Art? His hats were the Main Character hats in "Seabiscut". His vintage JC Pennys Marathon that Jeff Bridges wore was a piece of crap. I held the actual hat. The camera is very gentle to the eye when Hollywood makes a film. The panama hats...they were the lowest grade Cuenca I have seen. On camera? Wonderful? The costumer on that film was CHEAP. Art gave them exaxtly what they wanted. Art is doing another film, and made the MAIN CHARACTER hats...I don't know if I'm supposed to say..but John Travolta is one of the actors who has a Vintage Sillhouettes hat.

Well, welcome to the Lounge Dave! I spoke to you a couple years ago, but didn't buy. Sorry. I don't mean I won't in the future.

It is a privlidge to have you on this fine fourm. You bring YEARS of fine experience...and quality. I hope you can find a happy customer here, and if they visit your web site, I know they will be impressed! :cheers1:
