Dehen N1 deck jacket sizing advice/thoughts please

Hi All

Can anyone offer any real world experience of sizing a Dehen N1 deck jacket for me please? I am 182cm tall, 165lbs/74kg with a 39inch chest. Looking at the Dehen website and the various different models wearing their different N1's that Dehen has, it looks like I'm a medium. However I do like a bit of room for layering. I live in the UK so I need to get the size right first time as sending it back and doing an exchange would probably not be viable. I'm tempted by a large but am just not sure.

The only other N1 deck jacket I've tried was a Freewheelers: I found the 38 far too tight under the arms and the size 40 was perfect.

Id really appreciate any advice/thoughts. Thanks very much

I have the same chest and height measurement as you. But, I'm heavier at 185 (84kg).

I found the medium to be too tight, even with just a t-shirt on underneath. The shearling lining takes away from the overall pit-to-pit measurement. I ended up selling it.

The attached pic is from 2021 and I don't know if they've updated their sizing at all.

I am similar to you, I would go for large for heavy layering etc. medium should work for a henley/thin sweatshirt though I think. For reference I wear a 40 on the Freewheelers/RMC N-1 deck and can layer reasonably.

Thank you!

I've found sizing up to be the better bet. I did the same thing with both my Freenote RJ-2. The measurements say I should fit into a medium, but I find the medium to be too restrictive. When I went with the large the fit was more comfortable and left some room for layer. Although with that jacket I never need to layer!

I have a 42.5" relaxed chest and I have an XL, fits great and allows for layering which any winter jacket should allow IMO.

Also, the jacket is not so warm that it would serve as good winter jacket without the possibility of layering. Also often I find I need the layer so I'm not cold at my destination (eg. restaurant, school, work). But of course as always, YMMW.

I'm 6'2 (188cm) and 167 lbs - I started with a Dehen N1 in a size medium. It fit very well in the chest and torso, but the sleeves were too short for me, I bought it off eBay, so I had to eat a fairly large cost to resell it. That said, I ordered a large from Dant (their collaboration between them and Dehen) and it fits great. My measurements:
40" chest
17.5" shoulder
26-27" sleeve (27 or 28 would be preferred, but it seems I need to gain a ton of weight to get sleeves like that)

The other thing to remember with these N1's is that they are extra thick based off the Mouton, and if you plan to layer under it for extra warmth.

Ive ordered a size large, it is due to arrive Tuesday. Nervously excited as still wonder if the med was the better option. Will post a pic when it arrives. Thanks again all

I think you'll dig the large - after wearing mine now for several weeks, I really like the versatility that it allows me - I can have just a base layer and the jacket over that, a base layer and a mid layer with the jacket over that, and it all feels comfortable. I know I'm slightly taller ~6cm (2.3"), but we're the same wight and about the same shoulder width. I still wish it had longer sleeves, but I've always struggled to find long enough sleeves, so this may be just right for you.

Yes, for a warm jacket I'd always size to allow for layering even if I intended not to layer that often. There's a real danger of a jacket as warm as a shearling in a t-shirt fit ending up as one that is almost never worn because it's too warm over a t-shirt much of the time, then in the coldest months it's not warm enough without layering underneath (or you can end up having to carry a sweater separately and put it on when you go inside). Of course this may vary with individual tolerance to the cold.

I think they run slightly small. I picked up a S since all my other Dehen pieces are that size and fit well (tees, a Crissman, a cardigan) and the small N1 was kind of restrictive with anything more than a tshirt or OCBD. I’m 5’9”, 150ish lbs, 38” chest, for reference. I’m hoping they didn’t update the sizing because I scooped a M last night in a newer colour way.
