Hello all,

What is a dimensional cut brim, and why is it important to me?

A dimensional cut is what is on the Indy hat. The front and rear of the brim are a little longer than the sides. :) As far as why its important to you, its not unless you want it or want an indy cut.:D

A dimensional cut provides a bit more dramatic "swoop" to the brim. Most brims are the same size all around, but dimensional brims aren't entirely unknown... but they're not that common either.

However, since they're necessary for the correct Indy hat look, lots of folks here are very interested in them (along with the untapered stovepipe crown, another feature that doesn't really matter to most hat wearers). You've got to remember that the FL has a lot of crossover with the Club Obi-Wan crowd, and this place was originally started by Indy fans.

And keep in mind that the dimensional cut is not that huge of a difference.
In most cases, it's only about and 1/8."

You wouldn't think it'd make that much difference in the profile of the hat, but it actually does.

The real trick is getting the transition correct so it looks right.
