hello my name is bubba. i love hats but i generally wear caps. but about 5 days ago my nephew and his dad was riding around and spotted and estate sale. they went in and noticed a hat in a box and ask how much for it. the lady told them 3 dollars and also siad it had once belonged to a preacher that passed away. so my nephew told his dad that his uncle would love this hat so they bought it. well later that day they show up at my house and give it to me i was so greatful it was a very beautiful hat but i know nothing about it could someone help me. i will try to describe it as best as i can. its like a charcoal grey. the box says champ hats. inside it says esablished 1817 mallory fifth ave new york. for youthful smartness. premier quality. its a 7 and 1 quarter size. the leather band says MOLLORY "THE DALLAS" gravenette processed. sheds showers. the other side of the band says bradfield bros mcrae GA. also while i was looking i noticed somthing sticking up outside the leather. i pulled it out it was a scripture calander from 1954 with a scripture for each day of the week. could anyone help me with the age and also how much it could be worth cause if it has a little value i would be scared to wear it. thanks bubba

Mallory is a good hat brand, Nice quality product. They're not terribly rare; without pictures, assigning a value is hard, other than to say that three bucks is a steal. I can't see any reason you should worry terribly about wearing it.

Hello bubbaA

Welcome-All I know is that Mallory is a Fine Hat. My son has one that sounds like it is very similar to the one you have mentioned, and it is durable and has held up well in rain, snow and daily wear in a High School setting and still looks great. As for "Youthful Smartness", well the Jury is still out on that one. It is incredible the level of knowledge available on this lounge, some of these folks Really know their Hats. I do not know the age or the more specific information about it but if you could post some pictures of both inside and outside of the hat I'm sure someone will be able to really help ya.

bubbaA,

Mallorys are very nice hats, but not priceless. Chances are it is a very good quality hat and will hold up well in the rain.

Make sure you check some of the threads on hat care here in the forum. Welcome to the Fedora Lounge. Wear the hat in good health and enjoy it.

Trying to see if I could find a picture of a Mallory Dallas hat, I typed mallory hat dallas into Google. For Ebay, it came up with two links - the first for a Mallory ad for sale, but the second link has 3 hats including an off-white Mallory Dallas (or so says the description). Since there's a rule against posting live Ebay ads on Fedora Lounge (unless it's something you yourself are selling), I can put the link here now, but if you Google "mallory hat dallas" you could see if that's a similar hat (different color of course) and let us know.
