EXQUISITE! DOUBLE-BREASTED PINSTRIPE JACKET FROM BRIONI

Brioni jackets are exquisite--and absurdly expensive! Unless you acquire one here!

A few days ago I wrote a brief history of Brioni on my FB page, WaterhollowTweed, in which I noted that unlike many other luxury tailoring houses Brioni has never compromised on quality: They do not license their name, and they do not offer lower-priced diffusion lines. A Brioni, quite simply, is a Brioni.

Brioni's concern with producing the very highest quality garments is evident everywhere in this beautiful jacket, from the cut, to the quality of the materials used, to the extensive handwork throughout.

This is Brioni's "Plinio" model. Cut as a double-breasted jacket, this has a 6 x 2 button configuration: 6 front buttons, of which two fasten. (This jacket also has an interior button that fastens, to ensure that the jacket retains the correct silhouette when worn.) It features beautiful peak lapels, slighjtly padded shoulders in the Roman manner, and is subtley darted. It has a twin vent. The cuffs features hand-sewn faux-button holes, and have three buttons. The exterior pocket flaps are beautifully elegantly cut.

It is fully lined in Brioni's exclusive signature lining. It is also--of course!--fully canvassed.

Brioni jackets are famous for featuring extensive handwork, and this is no exception. It features pick stitching on the placke and on the lapels. All of the button holes are hand-sewn, and so is all of the stitching around the pockets, both the interior pockets and the exterior pockets. the lining is also hand-sewn with pick stitching.

All of this work was done in Brioni's own workshops in Italy.

The cloth from which this jacket is cut does full justice to the quality of its cut and construction. It is a beautiful mid-weight wool with classic cream pinstriping.

The "Plinio" model of jacket is offered both as an odd jacket and also as part of a suit. It is possible, then, that this jacket was originally sold on its own--some indication that this weas the case can be found in its size tag, which lists only the jacket size (EU 51, US 41) with no trousers size. (Although it is also possible that it is an orphan.) If so, then this jacket would likely have been worn with dark khakis or beautifully cut jeans, a dress shirt and a grenadine tie--ready for a day at the Termini Art Gallery or an evening strolling the plazas of Rome!

Overall, this jacket is in excellent condition. But it does have a couple of minor flaws. First, one of the buttons on the left cuff is missing--an easy fix, or else ignored. There is also the very start of a fray where the lining meets the shoulders, and a small spatter of tiny pinpricks in the lining under the "Made in Italy" lapel. The original Brioni tag also needs restitching on side--but I will have this done before shipping. And one of the buttons securing the interior pockets is missing.

I suspect that the original retail on this jacket was around $3,000.... and that's being very conservative indeed, since that would be the lowest price Brioni sells wool jackets for!

SO, how about just $49, or offer, boxed, shipped, and insured in the USA? A very rare opportunity to acquire a Brioni for less than the price of a small used car!
