I'm kind of worried. I shipped my Crossover back to Parker for resizing on the 8th. Today he writes that he's moved, and still hasn't received it. When I sent it back, I used USPS, the same as he did to send it to me. They still do forward packages and mail, don't they?

You can always contact the local post office and inquire about your package, as they are normally very helpful. Explain your concerns and they should "address" them for you, (no pun intended).

Yes, as long as P filled out the proper change of address forms.

This is why Delivery Confirmation is worth the price. It doesn't speed things up, but it does give peace of mind.

Just heard from Parker -- my errant Crossover has arrived at his new place. He promises to have it back by the end of the week, which would be ultra cool.

Got to be getting close for me, then. Parker mentioned about a week ago that my sweatband replacement jobs were about up to the bench, but honestly I'm more excited about the custom. When did you order, HT? I went in around the first week of January, but also have some extra brim treatment which may add some time. totally psyched, though.

I'm looking forward to mine as well. Parker called me Friday to discuss my head size. For some reason he'd thought it was 22 1/16", and maybe I made that mistake when I measured myself last year, but my most recent measurement and re-measurement is 21.75". So he's got some resizing to do. However, he estimated he'd be able to mail it on Saturday, so maybe by Wednesday this week --?

I think I'm somewhere in the line, now. I've ordered what I'm calling a fifties Open Road clone from Falcon Park. It'll be 100% beaver, in natural color, with a 2 3/4 inch bound brim and a cattleman's bash. Still haven't picked the ribbon and binding, but I would like something conservative...something that doesn't contrast too much with the felt.

Here's one of my older ORs with a Cattleman's Crease. This is the look I'm going for. As you can see, the ribbon comes very close to exactly matching the body of the hat.

My "Crossover" showed up yesterday! Talk about fast! It looks great and fits perfectly now with no padding, and is bashed in a sort of Open Road style. I'll try to get a pic or two once I finish shaping the brim to my taste -- I like a snapped-down brim on an OR.

I've also added a long shallow dome down the middle of the central bash, as the hat's roof was touching mine, so I guess this is no longer a standard cattleman's crease.

Here are some before and after shots of a Stetson Open Road 3X I sent to Parker for cleaning and a new sweat to replace a dry-rotted sweat.

I know the sweatband looks fine in this pics but it crumbled when handled...

I recently inherited a western styled 4X beaver Stetson that has seen better days. But since I got it from family I was hoping to have it reworked into a fedora... After seeing what was done here, I know where I'm sending it!

The new hat arrived today!

Initially, the intent was to make a copy of the Borsalino Alessandria at a lower cost but a custom. Why not? I had asked Parker for a vintage-weight cream body, 4-ligne ribbon in a matching color, an Alessandria-type bow and a wind string.

That is not what I ended up with. :)

First, the cream body could not be sourced. He substituted the beaver standard-weight in bone instead. Then, a ribbon to match could not be found in 4 ligne, so a 9-ligne ribbon was substituted instead. Of course by this point, the wind string didn't match the hat, so we omitted that.

I think the only spec that stayed the same was the 6-inch open crown and the 2-3/4" bound brim (though 9 ligne instead of 4 ligne).

Here's the pictures. First, is the box:

I was able to put in a high diamond crown I had seen on William Powell in one of his old movies. While the blocks on these things start out straight, when you're done creasing it, it's a very tall taper. I think it's 5" high, for the most part, all of the way around. There's just enough room for my head, where I didn't have to put a dome in it.

Judging by the result, I think it looks more like a Stetson Whippet than a Borsalino Alessandria. Not what I was going for, by any means, but I was curious what I was to get and I think it turned out pretty well. It looked kind of goofy when I had just gotten done creasing it, probably from the steam, but after wearing it for an hour or so, the felt's relaxed enough to where it looks pretty good, I think.

Well worth the time and money. I think the wider ribbon treatment actually works better for the way it's creased than the thinner ribbon of the Borsalino. Working with 100% beaver instead of the rabbit is kind of interesting... it feels different and you don't get the "wet dog" smell when it hits the steam. It'll be interesting to see how it feels after wearing it for a couple of weeks.

Hope you've enjoyed seeing my pictures.

Tom
