Oh, I didn’t know that. It’s actually my first one, so I’m still learning. Thanks for the info, really interesting!
There were only 4 contracts of the 7823A spec.

This is a link to everything you want to know about G1 jackets from the very beginning through the 70s.

I've always thought that the AN-J-3 jacket combined the best features of the G-1 and the A-2.

More supple/more durable goatskin, less constricting "Action" back, convenient inside the chest cell phone/****** pocket, and "Action" back allows easier layering of internal fleece jackets/sweaters.

The fur collar on the G-1 has a psychological effect on me, making the G-1 feel "warmer" than it really is, thus limiting wear in upper temp levels somewhat.

Actually when you read up on it, out of the four 7823A contracts only the last two contracts were marked 7823A. The first two were still marked 7823 without the A. So with only 2 contracts with labels actually marked 7823A, there are not that many out there compared to other Spec jackets.

Good point, I hadn’t noticed that detail.
Looks like only the Raph Edward and Irvin B. Foster contracts were actually labelled 7823A.
Thanks for pointing that out ! Learned something interesting there.
